A Transport Case

10" LX200 GPS SCT

The 10 inch Meade LX200GPS telescope is a great peice of equipment, but it's a bear to move around or take anywhere, especially when you're working alone. I had the Meade softcase (right) but it was more trouble than help; it was nearly impossible to carry and wasn't designed to be dragged. It was like trying to carry raw eggs with a fork.
@#$% Bag!

The Inspiration
I wanted something that would hold the scope and keep it safe, along with the tripod and all it's accessories. I wanted to be able to take the scope away from home, so it had to fit in the Matrix and the Blazer. Looking around for something I could buy, or ideas for something I could make I found the LX200GPS Yahoo Group where a fellow (Gregg S.) made a case (left) for his 8" LX200. That was just the sort of thing I was looking for!
Details:
Made of 3/8" plywood with a 3/4" pine frame reinforcing inside the corners. The tripod bay will be partially lined with foam from an Army surplus closed-cell sleeping pad. Part of the tripod bay will be accessory storage for eyepieces, cabels, etc. The foam for the scope came from the Meade soft carrying case.
Handles allow lifting through doors not wide enough to allow passage.
