USS SAINT LAWRENCE
Restoration of a 1:24 Static Model for the United States Naval Academy Museum

Going into October; the stern decoration was attached and filling in the cracks and gaps begun. The new waterways were milled, shaped, and fitted. The quarter gallery windows were layed-out and scribed. The model had a single window painted here, but plans and and photos of the Larry's sisters show 3 windows - so that's what we did. The fiddle head was painted, but hasn't been reattached permanently yet.

We also decided that instead of just replacing the gun barrels on her gun deck, we would cast gun-port/gun barrel combinations as I had done for Constellation. This would be look better than barrels and no gunport lids, and simpler than making separate lids.

I missed a couple of weeks, but work continues. The moldings around the stern are essentially complete, and Lon has gotten into adding some relief to the quarter gallery windows. Pete installed the waterways and given them some initial paint. He'll be making hatch comings next. We're also going to close up the main hatch with gratings so debris won't wind up in the hull again. I finished filling and painting the box after the bulwards there were shimmed up so the bowsprit would fit.

I took in my Pride of Baltimore hull - here's a picture of the 1:20th 90 foot schooner on the 1:24th 175 foot frigate.
