Internal sealing and blocking

3/20/2012: The model was dragged out to the shop where it got a layer of cloth inside the stern over the windows to seal everything up.

Oak strips were epoxied inside the hull to catch the screws that will hold the chainplates to the hull. This will give the screws something more to grab than just the hull.

The subdeck will get glued to the deck beams, but I want the underside painted, so to make sure the glue will stick, the places where the deck will be glued to the beams was masked off and the rest of the was painted on it's underside, leaving the places where it will be glued to the deck beams bare.

Life changes course - again

July 2013: It's been a while now and nothing you could call work has been done to the model. I moved and my workshop was dismantled and is yet to be set up again. The loss of my job put this sort of thing on a back burner, so the model was literally put on a shelf.

Baltimore Port Expo

5/18/2014: An invitation to take Constellation to the Baltimore Port Expo at pier 13 where the NS Savannah is docked led to a spurt of activity as I tried to get her jury-rigged to sail for the second time. Several parts seem to have gotten lost in the move, including the new winch drums. I managed to get her in some sort of order by 0200 the morning of the Expo.

Loaded her into the van and we spent the day with the model in the 20' x 30' purpose-built pool on display more than sailing.

Chesapeake Maritime Museum

5/31: Two weeks later Constellation along with Pride, and Macedonian were taken down to St Michael's Maryland to be displayed at the Chesapeake Maritime Museum's Model Expo. I was surprise at the attention the models got, especially Macedonian, being the least finished - but people were very interested in how the model were made, and surprised by what they were made of; readily available materials from the local hardware/lumber store.

As far as sailing goes, the pool was bigger, but still a small space for Constellation, it was full of other boats and obstructions, and the building upwind made the air flukey and do odd things. Constellation is meant for open water and when I get her out there, then I expect to see her perform.
